2. Eat Fortified Cereals

Starting the day off right, with a bowl of fortified cereal is a smart move. Full of vitamins, especially of the B kind, this meal will provide the basics needed to handle the rigors of a day carrying a child.

3. Get Enough Iodine

Iodine is among the healthiest minerals out there. Pregnant women need sufficient amounts of iodine, at least 250 mg. per day, to help the development of the baby’s brain and nervous system.

The top sources of iodine are dairy products, such as milk and cheese. For seafood lovers, salmon and shrimp are two good options.

4. Do Not Forget Vitamin C

Catching a cold while pregnant does no one any good. Avoid this problem by taking in lots of Vitamin C. Drinking natural juice or taking supplements is best.

5. Avoid Mercury

Mercury can cause birth defects and should best be avoided in high amounts. Stay away from shark meat, white snapper and swordfish.

6. What About Morning Sickness?

At some point, every pregnant woman will suffer from morning sickness. To steady the stomach, try eating crackers or pretzels, something light. Cereal is fine. However, by all means, avoid fatty and greasy foods.

7. What About Constipation?
